Shiny Nose Problem Needs Matte Make-Up

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

I wear foundation, but my nose is very oily and shiny and I have to powder it every hour. Is there a face powder that lasts longer than an hour?

Signed,

Shiny skin

Dear Shiny skin,

If your face is fine, but your nose is very oily and shiny, then you will need to try different methods of controlling the oil on that area only. You can try a matte pressed powder on your nose, but if that does not work, then try the following matte make-up steps below.

1. Use a mattifying or oil control face primer on just your nose. To find an effective product, see "Face Primer Keeps Shine Off and Smoothes Wrinkles" on page 329.

2. Then apply your regular foundation to you face as you normally would, including your nose.

3. Use a matte pressed finishing powder on your nose. To find a top rated matte powder, see "Powder Long Lasting for Oily Skin" on page 427.

4. If steps 1, 2, and 3 do not take care of you shiny nose, then when you apply your foundation, do not apply any to your nose. Instead, try L'Oreal Cashmere Perfect Powdercreme. The liquid turns into a matte powdery finish. A tiny bit goes a long way, so only apply a pinhead drop on your nose. After it dries, then apply the matte pressed finishing powder to your nose.

You might need to apply two coats of the powdercreme. Let the first application set a minute before applying the second coat. Then, use the finishing powder.

Oil blotting papers might also help. These tissues soak up oil without disturbing the make-up. You could try blotting the oil from your nose before using the matte pressed powder. See "Oily Face Problem Controlled with Blotting Papers" below.
