Toast for Deceased

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

A colleague died this year and the staff thinks we should toast the deceased, or the memory of the deceased, at our Christmas staff party. Is it appropriate to toast a deceased person?

It would be very nice and appropriate to make a toast to your deceased colleague. Making a toast to a deceased person is often done at weddings and other special occasions where a loved one is no longer with us.
