Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

Is it appropriate to send flowers to a widow on the first anniversary of her spouse's passing? What kind of card does one send? A sympathy card would appear to be irritating, as it would make the past event appear current.

Sending your friend flowers to let her know that you are thinking of her is a very nice gesture and would be appreciated. Instead of flowers, it would also be appropriate to write a short note expressing your thoughts. You are correct that a sympathy card would not be suitable.
