Seating Guests at Dinner Table

Dear Dr. Dave & Dr. Dee,

We are having a good friend over for dinner and wondered if she should sit at the head of the table opposite my husband?

Signed,

Table Manners

Dear Table Manners,

The host and hostess sit at each end of the table opposite each other. The female guest is seated to the right of host (your husband). A male guest would be seated to the right of hostess.

However, for informal dining at home, the guest can sit where he or she is most comfortable. For example, if you have a view from the dining table, then the guest may like to sit facing the view.
