Posthumous Award Properly Acknowledged

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

We are honoring a couple for their long-standing contributions to an organization. She is still alive, but he died recently. Is it proper to put in print her full name and then on the next line, his full name adding posthumously in parentheses?

Signed,

Please advise

Dear Please advise,

Yes, it would be fine to include the deceased's name on the next line, but use the term posthumous (no "ly") in parentheses, either in lower case or capitalize with the term Posthumous Award.

For example:

John Smith (posthumous)

John Smith (Posthumous Award)
