Lipstick Blotted Before Drinking From Glass

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

While having lunch with some coworkers, I noticed that one woman who wore red lipstick had left lipstick marks on the water glass. I found it gross.

Signed,

Water marks

Dear Water marks,

Lip marks on glasses is unsightly, but can be avoided if the person wearing lipstick, lipgloss, or lip balm first blots their lips with either a tissue or napkin before drinking from the glass. Wearing a nontransferable lipstick would also help keep marks off the glass.

In addition, to avoid leaving lipstick marks on a glass, one reader suggested discretely licking the glass quickly just before sipping. The saliva acts as a barrier to the lipstick transfer.
