Wedding Invitation Rudely States No Children

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

We received a wedding invitation with a handwritten "no children." Isn't this rude? I feel offended that our children cannot attend the wedding. Our children are 6 and 8 years old, but are very well behaved. Is the bride being selfish?

Signed,

Upset

Dear Upset,

There could be a variety of reasons why the bride and groom prefer an adults only wedding and reception, so their wishes should be respected. However, it was not proper to write "no children" on the invitation. If only you and your husband's names were on the invitation, then that would indicate that only you and your husband were invited. In addition, the adults only preference could have been spread by word of mouth. It would be best to just let it go, attend the wedding and reception and enjoy yourselves sans children.
