Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

My fiance and I are paying for our wedding, but of course, get lots of advice from my Mom and his. We are in the process of deciding on our wedding cake, nothing elaborate as we are on a budget. Now, both moms are telling me to surprise my fiance by having groom's cake. Is this really necessary? If it is needed, would it be best to match the wedding cake, but be in chocolate?

The groom's cake is optional. Should you decide to have a groom's cake, the design can be anything you like, often something fun and in the shape of a sport or hobby of interest to the groom such as a football, baseball, basketball, or fish. A chocolate groom's cake is common because it is opposite in color to the traditional white wedding cake. But, the groom's cake can be any color.
