Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,
My husband and I have been married for nearly a year, and there's something that has been bothering me since our marriage - his mother! I try to get along with her, and she seems nice to me in person, but whenever she sends us a card or letter, it's only addressed to my husband. I feel like she's snubbing me, am I right? What should I do?
Signed,
Feeling Snubbed
Dear Feeling Snubbed,
Yes, you are being snubbed, either subconsciously or consciously by your husband's mother. Either Ann Landers or Dear Abby printed a list of 10 things mothers-in-law can do to get along with their daughters-in-law. Number ONE on the list was to always address letters to both the son and daughter-in-law. You could write Ann or Abby and get them to print it again, then mail it to your mother-in-law. It would be nice if your husband would say something (in a pleasant, nonthreatening way) to his mother about including your name on correspondence.
