White After Labor Day - Okay

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

Is it really not okay to wear white after Labor Day?

Signed,

I like white

Dear I like white,

It is okay to wear white after Labor Day. Limiting when white can be worn during the season is an outmoded concept.

It used to be that one was supposed to wear white only between Memorial Day and Labor Day (basically between the last Monday in May and first Monday of September). Then, "winter white" or off-white became the more accepted white-color for Fall or Winter clothing.

Several First Ladies wore white during their husband's inauguration in January: Laura Bush's suit during the Inauguration Oath of Office ceremony, Jacqueline Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, and Michelle Obama at the inaugural balls. Some celebrities wore white to the Golden Globe Ceremony held in January 2009 and the Academy Awards in February.
