Paternity Cannot Be Shared

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

This may sound stupid, but here goes. When I was 8 weeks pregnant, I left my husband and have been with my fiance ever since. I now have a three-week-old daughter who doesn't look anything like her biological father (my former husband), but does have features that resemble my fiance.

My question is this: I had not had intercourse with her father (my former husband) since I was six weeks pregnant. But, I have had intercourse with my fiance since I was 8 weeks pregnant. Can my fiance's sperm affect how the baby looks? Is it possible?!! Thank you for your time.

Signed,

Wondering

Dear Wondering,

The answer to your question is "No." There is no way that sperm from your fiance could have had any effect on your baby, if it was fathered by your former husband. The only way your fiance could have influenced the appearance of your baby would be if he were the father.
