Suede Oil Stain Help

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr Dee,

Okay, I shouldn't have worn my nice suede shoes while cooking dinner, but I did, and I accidentally spilled some sauce on my shoe. Although I wiped the shoe right away, there is still an oil spot on my shoe that looks bad. I've tried blotting using a powder to soak up the oily stain, but it didn't work. What can I do to get out the stain or is it a lost cause?

Signed,

Dear Learned a lesson,

If the suede shoes are aniline dyed (dye permeates the leather and not just a surface dye), then you can try cleaning the shoe with soap and water. Use mild soap with a clean cloth and gently rub the spot. Rinse off the soap with a damp cloth and let air dry. If the spot is still there, repeat again.
