Sonicare Still Needs Flossing and Rinsing

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

My Sonicare toothbrush works so well cleaning my teeth that I feel flossing is not necessary. When I mentioned this to my wife, she said that I still needed to floss. Who is right?

Signed,

Happy with brushing only

Dear Happy with brushing only,

While Sonicare brushing is very effective, flossing and rinsing are still necessary. Even Sonicare (www.sonicare.com) recommends flossing.

You can see for yourself why you need to floss after brushing. First, use your Sonicare, then floss, and finally rinse with a mouthwash. Note the bits of food particles and debris that come out with the rinse.

Daily brushing, flossing, and rinsing are key to good oral hygiene. Be sure to floss down below the gum line every evening, and rinse with a mouthwash.
