Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,
I've looked into buying some new furniture, and noticed that part of the cost of the new sofa and chairs is the fabric protector that they apply. Is this a good idea to have on the fabric? Does it work and will it change the feel of the fabric? I have 2 small children, so I'd like to try to keep the furniture clean.
Signed,
Keep it Clean
Dear Keep It Clean,
Fabric protector for furniture is a good idea. However, normally, the furniture company will increase the price of the furniture for this feature. If fabric protection is an option, do not let the furniture company do it. They will charge $100-200 to apply the fabric protector. Instead, buy a can of fabric or upholstery protector such as Scotchgard for about $10, and do it yourself.
Fabric protector is easy to apply, won't change the texture of the fabric, and will help keep the furniture clean.
