Blush for Bride Who Hates Make Up

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

I will be getting married in a very simple ceremony and had not planned on a wedding dress nor doing my hair any differently. I don't wear make-up either. However, my mother insists that I at least wear some lipstick or blush or eye make-up since I am "very pale and plain," she says. She thinks I'll look too washed out in photographs of the wedding. She took me to a department store cosmetics counter for a make-over, and I came away looking like a clown. To get my mother to stop bugging me, I told her that I was going to put on a little make-up, but not much. What do you suggest for someone who hates being made up? I really would prefer my own natural look. Also, I'm not comfortable wearing lipstick.

Signed,

Plain and simple

Dear Plain and Simple,

Since you really hate wearing make up, then just use some blush on your cheeks. Find powder blush in a color that is similar to the color of your cheeks after you've exercised. Brush the blush onto the apple of your cheeks, continue brushing slanting slightly towards your upper ear, stopping near the hairline. Put a little on your chin, too. To blend and wipe off the excess, take a tissue and gently wipe over your cheeks and chin, leaving a faint "glow" of blush. You will look like a natural blushing bride!
