Red Ribbon Never Out of Style

Dear Dr. Dave & Dr. Dee,

I've seen the AIDS red ribbons on some lapels, and wondered, are those still in style?

Signed,

Style Conscious

Dear Style Conscious,

HIV/AIDS red ribbons are in style and a good way to promote awareness and show support for HIV/AIDS research. December 1st is World AIDS Day, and October is AIDS Awareness Month.

To date, there is no cure for HIV/AIDS. According to the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov), in the United States over 850,000 persons are living with HIV, which includes 180,000 to 280,000 who do not know that they are infected. Worldwide, over 40 million people are living with HIV/AIDS. The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS website at www.unaids.org provides up to date news and information as well as statistics for every country.
